Prairie WWWW, the experimental nature kids with a major cult following among Taiwan’s indie music fans, almost never perform at festivals in Taiwan, but they are making an exception for the 2019 Urban Nomad Freakout, saying they appreciate the festival’s alternative spirit. Further, they see Urban Nomad as a great place to perform and mix with well respected international acts.
Other new lineup additions for the Freakout music festival include Korea’s Pakk as well as local Taiwan bands U.Ta, Zero Filters, and Bootyslappers. DJ Cola, a leader in the group Latinos in Taiwan, will join the DJ lineup.
The other big news is: Single-day tickets for the Freakout will go on sale on March 1, and Saturday / Sunday lineups are also announced from today. In case you were wondering, the highly anticipated performance by Japanese bands Mouse on the Keys and METALCHICKS is scheduled for Sunday, April 14. Prairie WWWW is an experimental folk band formed in Taipei, Taiwan in 2010. The music combines poetry, folk, ambient and tribal elements, and in recent years they have toured to major international festivals including Primavera Sound in Spain, Fuji Rock and SXSW, making them one of Taiwan’s most successful indie bands in the international arena.
Pakk, formed in 2014 in Seoul, play a powerful and noisy concoction of post-rock, psychedelic sounds and heavy rock, and are fronted by Dae-inn Kim, formerly of the well known post-hardcore band Apollo 18, which previously performed in Taiwan at Beastie Rock. The band’s first full-length album, Salpuri, released August 2017, made several of Korea’s “Best of 2017” lists and received a nomination the 2018 Korean Music Awards for Best Metal and Hardcore Album. This is their first visit to Taiwan.
