Independent Spirit Award Nominee

“Miraculous…my favorite film of the year by far.” –– Matt Zoller Seitz, RogerEbert.com

“A mighty cinematic force” –– The New Yorker

“A major work by a singular American artist” –– The New York Times

“A puckishly high-minded humanist spellbinder” –– Variety

In Part Two: At The Bread Factory, they rehearse the Greek play, Hecuba. But the real theatrics are outside the theater where the town has been invaded by bizarre tourists and mysterious tech start-up workers. There is a new normal in Checkford, if it is even really Checkford any longer.

Shot entirely on 16mm film, the drama of A Bread Factory’s wonderful characters is taught as a drumhead and incredibly smart. The larger story of the film meanwhile weaves together the interconnected realities of the arts, economics, politics and media with a lucidity rarely seen. This is very much a filmmaker‘s film, and it is no less than pure genius.

The cast notably features numerous highly accomplished actors, including Janet Hsieh (TV host of Taiwan Fun) as one of the Chinese performance artists, Tyne Daly (Spiderman: Homecoming, Cagney & Lacy) as arts educator Dorothea, and James Marsters (Hawaii Five-O, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as a celebrity actor. Director Patrick Wang is a second-generation Taiwanese-American for whom the New York Times has declared, “This is a career to keep an eye on.”
