Because freaking out is good for you

Back for the fifth straight year, Urban Nomad’s two-day music festival, the Urban Nomad Freakout  Music Fest, will bring its carnival of fun and weirdness back to Taipei’s Tiger Mountain on April 13-14. The festival will feature over 30 bands and DJs on 3 stages, including a special Circus Stage with aerial acrobats, fire spinners, pole dancers, jugglers and a lot of surprises. Headliners include Japan’s piano post-rockers Mouse on the Keys, fresh off rave reviews and sold-out shows on tours of North America and Japan, and the female duo METALCHICKS, featuring guitarist suGar Yoshinaga (Buffalo Daughter) and drummer Yuka Yoshimura (OOIOO, DMBQ). Canadian recording artist Buckman Coe will bring his soulful R&B and rootsy world rhythms.

This festival began in 2008 as an opening party for the Urban Nomad Film Fest, kicking off a decade of musical events inviting the best, weirdest and most outrageous underground and indie musical acts to Taiwan. Held variously in warehouses, “red envelope” clubs, and since 2015 in the outdoor setting of Tiger Mountain, highlights include I.U.D. (feat Liz Bougatsos of Gang Gang Dance) for the Video Mindfuck Party (2011), Trippple Nippples (2012), Mop of Head (2013, 2016), Autopsy for a Drowned Shrimp (2015), Kinoco Hotel (2017), and Angelo Moore (2018). Since moving to Tiger Mountain in 2015, Urban Nomad’s opening party has grown to become an outdoor music festival that kicks off the Urban Nomad spring season — the Urban Nomad Freakout Music Fest!

The Freakout will also feature installation art, delicious food, craft beer, amazing drinks, and a chance to be part of one great collaborative experience in a beautiful mountain valley. So get ready to free your funky mind, listen to some mind-blowing music, and join our outrageous carnival.

For 2019, the music programming focuses on creativity, artistry and eclecticism: psych rock, indie hip hop, garage surf, piano-driven post-rock, progressive, ska, experimental, electronic, performance art, roots reggae, funk, lo-fi, glitch-hop, and techno in a Taoist Temple. Last but not least, our audience / collaborators are freaking amazing and always bring the fun! We hope to see you there!
