A crane carries a rounded steel net, which contains 30,000 aluminum cans, hanging in mid-air. Artist Yang Chin-chih stand under this net in front of the Queens Museum in New York. The net opens, the cans rain down and bury Yang to the neck in a shiny mountain of waste. The work is titled “Kill Me or Change,” and it serves as the centerpiece of senior documentarian Huang Ming-chuan’s examination of the oeuvre of Taiwanese performance artist Yang Chin-chih. Yang has been an expatriate in New York for more than three decades, and a prestigious group of New York curators and critics offer comment on his work, which touches on nuclear accidents, water shortages, earthquakes, melting ice caps, technology development, and other disasters that threaten the future of life on Earth.
