Everyone lives in their own way, but we all breath the same air. The first two films are about places and the people who live in them. Then there is a third film about two men and a baby.

帕敢青年 Hpakant Jade Life

In Hpakant, Myanmar, poor young people are numerous. Some of them engage in drug trafficking. Others leave Hpakant in pursuit of love. Still others stay and dream of the jade hidden in the mountains, hoping it will provide their ticket to fortune and better lives. They often sing this song: Before the best of luck comes, do not underestimate us, the jade miners.

Archipelago: Track 4 – Siki Sufin (“Earth, Wood, Water, Song”)

If you’ve been to Dulan in Taidong County, you may have met Siki Sufin. Local Amis sculptor, carpenter, father, musician, and fisherman, Siki is a piece of the local furniture. This film shows the relationship between earth, water (the rivers and ocean), wood (his livelihood) and song (communication and legacy) in Siki’s art, and how these elements bind him to his culture and village.
