Urban Nomad Award Nominees Announced!

Award nominees have been announced for Urban Nomad’s annual film competition. Of around 300 films submitted to the competition, 11 nominees have been chosen for awards to be determined by the festival jury, including the Urban Nomad Grand Prize, Urban Nomad Jury Prize and Far East Rising Star Award. Award winners will be announced at a ceremony preceding Urban Nomad’s 2019 Closing Film, taking place on May 26 at 7pm. Congratulations to the nominees! For the full list, see below!

Opening and Closing Films Announced

Hao Wu’s People’s Republic of Desire, winner of the SXSW Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary in 2018 and a generally shocking documentary on livestreaming in China, is Urban Nomad’s opening film for the 2019 festival. The Closing Film will be Valerie Soe’s Love Boat: Taiwan on the 50-year-old study exchange program and its thousands of alumni, showing as an Asia premier and screening at its third festival overall. Both directors will be in attendance at the festival.

Competition Selections for 2019

From around 300 submissions to this year’s open call, including competition and out of competition films, the following 28 films have been made official selections for the 2019 Urban Nomad Film Fest! These include seven feature length films, and 21 short films. Genres include narrative fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental films. The list includes many first showings for audiences in Taipei or Taiwan, and several Asia premieres and world  premieres!
